Annabel Wilson, Tissue Viability Nurse, and Rachel Medcalf, Lead Pharmacist, from Nottinghamshire Healthcare have collaborated with Rodric Franic, Consultant Microbiologist at Nottingham University Hospitals, and Nicola Bucher, Senior Medicine Optimisation Pharmacist from the Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Integrated Care System (ICS) to update a Wound Infection Guidance to support all services across the ICS.  The guidance now includes skin, soft tissue infections and wound infections. It also includes clear guidelines on the management of self-harm wounds and antimicrobial dressing advice.

Annabel said, The guidance is comprehensive and has been produced to ensure consistent care across the Trust, reduce both inappropriate prescribing and antimicrobial resistance whilst guiding staff clearly when to prescribe oral and topical antimicrobials.

Alongside updating the guideline with the ICS, Annabel and Dr Francis Rodic joined Irina Varlan, Specialist Medicines Optimisation Interface Pharmacist at the Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Integrated Care Board, on a podcast to support the launch of the guideline and talks about the updates and the reason behind the changes. Listen to the podcast here  which also includes a downloadable copy of the Wound Infection Guidance.
