Notts hospitals unveil commemorative benches honouring veterans

Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust has unveiled two new commemorative benches at its Highbury Hospital site in Bulwell and Blossomwood site in Mansfield, as part of its Remembrance and Armistice Day commemorations.

The benches were officially unveiled yesterday during a special Remembrance event led by the Trust's Armed Forces Network, which brings together colleagues, patients and partners to recognise and support the Armed Forces community.

Funded through charitable contributions and designed by Lincolnshire based company Roll and Scroll, the benches provide meaningful spaces for reflection and remembrance, symbolising the Trust's gratitude for the service and sacrifice of veterans, both within the organisation and across the wider community.

The Trust also held a series of commemorative events across its sites, including services at Duncan Macmillan House, Rampton Hospital, Wathwood, Arnold Lodge and ward-based activities where patients and staff created displays, artwork and decorations in honour of Remembrance Day.

Anna Hiley, Deputy Medical Director, said: Whether you're sitting in silence, sharing stories, or simply taking a moment to pause, this bench is here for you. For quiet moments. For memories. For reflection. Whether you're a veteran, a loved one, or someone just passing through, we hope this space offers comfort, pride and a sense of connection to those who have served.

The Network champions equity, understanding and inclusion across the Trust - helping to build a culture where everyone feels valued, respected and supported.

This initiative reflects Nottinghamshire Healthcare's commitment to being a pro-equity and inclusive organisation, celebrating diversity and ensuring that every individual feels a sense of belonging. The new benches stand as enduring symbols of remembrance and unity, offering peaceful spaces to honour the courage, resilience and contribution of the Armed Forces community.
