OSCARS 2026: Meet the finalists of the Volunteer of the Year Award
Nottinghamshire Healthcare is counting down to the Outstanding Service Contribution and Recognition Scheme (OSCARS) Awards Ceremony on 6 November. The OSCARS celebrates the dedication of our volunteers, colleagues and Bank workforce. It’s an opportunity to recognise the people whose hard work, compassion and commitment make a positive difference to the communities we serve.
This year, we received almost 900 nominations from patients, carers and colleagues. After weeks of carefully reviewing every entry, our judges have selected the finalists for the 2025/26 OSCARS.
Volunteers play a vital role in our Trust, and today we will showcase our Volunteer of the Year finalists. This award recognises the outstanding impact of our volunteers who consistently goes above and beyond, demonstrating exceptional dedication, commitment and a passion for making a positive difference.
Our first finalist of this category is Sue. Drawing on her own lived experience, Sue has made an incredible difference to the Young Onset Dementia community, offering understanding, encouragement and hope to others facing similar challenges. Through her support of Young Onset Dementia group sessions, Sue helps people feel connected, understood and reassured that they are not alone. She also accompanies individuals to appointments and community groups, building confidence and helping them access valuable support networks.
Our second shortlisted nominee is Richard. His unwavering commitment to volunteering has transformed lives for more than 12 years, providing friendship, comfort and support to those who need it most. Known for his warmth, patience and genuine care, Richard builds meaningful relationships with the people he supports, helping them feel valued, respected and never alone. His commitment goes far beyond expectations, often maintaining contact with individuals long after they have left our services.
Eileen is our third shortlisted nominee for this award. Eileen’s warmth, compassion and commitment have made a lasting difference to the Stapleford Care Centre community since 2006. Whether offering directions, answering questions or simply sharing a reassuring smile, Eileen helps make attending appointments a less daunting experience for countless people. Her kindness, patience and willingness to help have made a real difference to patients, visitors and colleagues over the past two decades.
Helen, Rhiannon and their therapy dog Harper are the fourth finalists. The volunteering trio have become a much-loved presence on Rowan 2 ward, bringing comfort, companionship and joy to patients each week. Together, they go above and beyond to ensure every visit has a meaningful and positive impact, taking the time to connect with patients and brighten their day. Harper's calm and friendly presence provides comfort during difficult times, helping to lift spirits and create a sense of connection on the ward. Patients regularly look forward to her visits, describing them as uplifting, reassuring and a highlight of their week.
We’ll be announcing the winner on 6 November on our website and social media channels.
Our awards wouldn’t be possible without the generous support of our sponsors. Our Gold sponsors are TPP, Isla Health, The Compassionate Mind Foundation, Hill Dickinson and BT. We've also been supported by Fleet Care Ltd, Mills & Reeve and Merrymeet Marketing.
