Trust celebrates success in Big Nottingham Travel Challenge

The Trust recently took part in Nottingham City Council's Big Nottingham Travel Challenge, an initiative encouraging people across the city to choose healthier, more sustainable ways to travel, hosted by Nottingham City Council.

A huge thank you to everyone who took part. Thanks to the fantastic efforts of colleagues across the Trust, we finished as runners-up in the Workplace Leaderboard, earning a £30 charity voucher, which has now been donated to the Trust's charitable funds for the Live Team to use.

Collectively, colleagues completed 2,038 alternative travel miles across 549 journeys, helping to save an impressive 191kg of carbon emissions.

A special congratulations goes to Zenn Athar-James, Highbury Site Co-ordinator and Nigel Sarsfield, whose outstanding commitment to alternative commuting saw them each win an adult scooter.

Nigel said: "I really enjoyed taking part in the challenge and it was easy to log my journeys. It was great to see the progress of other people within the Trust and be spurred on by this."

During the challenge, Nigel also supported the Walk Notts charity's Nottingham Walking Festival, leading several walks and completing an impressive 18-mile walk along the River Leen. Every walk contributed towards the Big Nottingham Travel Challenge. He also led walks from the newly opened Waterside Bridge as part of the celebrations marking its opening.

Reflecting on the experience, Nigel added: "Taking part encouraged me to keep active while supporting a great cause. It was rewarding to see how everyday journeys could make a real difference."

Zenn Athar-James, Highbury Site Co-ordinator, said:

"I was hesitant to get involved at first - the thought of logging journeys was off-putting. But I hadn't realised how competitive I would become, and I had a lot of fun taking part. There are plans to run the competition again next year and I hope more people get involved."

The Big Nottingham Travel Challenge proved that small changes to our daily journeys can have a big impact.

Sarah Taylor, Energy and Carbon Manager commented:

Well done once again to everyone who took part and helped the Trust achieve such an excellent result. We look forward to seeing even more colleagues getting involved next year.
