Trust development of patient facilities highly commended in East Midlands Awards
The Blossomwood site, run by Nottinghamshire Healthcare has recently been Highly Commended, via the construction firm for the project, Tilbury Douglas, in the Constructing Excellence East Midlands Awards. The site provides inpatient and outpatient services for adults including older adults who need specialist mental health care.
The scheme was shortlisted in the Retrofit, plus the Integration & Collaborative Working categories, receiving Highly Commended in the Retrofit category.
The project has transformed the site into a modern, purpose-built environment for older adult mental health care, supporting the Trust's commitment to eliminating dormitory accommodation and bringing all older adult inpatient services together under one roof.
The redevelopment has delivered three inpatient wards, including dedicated dementia and mental health wards, alongside refurbished reception and dining areas, new consulting rooms, a Medical Education Suite, enhanced staff welfare facilities, and improved therapy and assessment spaces. All bedrooms are now single occupancy with accessible en-suite bathrooms, while wards provide therapeutic indoor and outdoor environments, dementia-friendly design features, and communal spaces that promote recovery and wellbeing.
Becky Sutton, Chief Operating Executive at Nottinghamshire Healthcare said: "We are incredibly proud to see the Blossomwood redevelopment recognised through this Highly Commended award. This achievement reflects the strong partnership and collaboration that made such a complex project possible while maintaining high-quality care for our patients throughout the redevelopment. Well done to everyone involved."
Further improvements include a dedicated Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) suite, a staff Health and Wellbeing Hub, upgraded security and nurse call systems, and enhanced site infrastructure. The redevelopment has created a high-quality, therapeutic environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
