What is MBCT-L?
Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) combines mindfulness practices with cognitive behavioural techniques. It is designed to be accessible to everyone and helps participants:
- Manage distress and emotional difficulties
- Cultivate awareness and presence
- Appreciate life more fully
- Unlock personal potential and support wellbeing
What to Expect from the Course
- Weekly Sessions: 2-hour classes held once a week for 8 weeks.
- Structure: Each session typically begins with a guided meditation, followed by the opportunity practice reflection (sharing is optional), and practical CBT-based exercises.
- Home Practice: Around 1 hour per day is recommended. You'll receive all the tools and materials needed to support your practice. This level of commitment is only required during the course.
Skills You'll Learn
- Recognise unhelpful thought patterns and mental habits.
- Step back from distressing thoughts and emotions.
- Identify early warning signs of stress or low mood and take proactive steps.
- Let go of the need to constantly 'fix' things.
- Cultivate self-compassion and kindness.

We understand that life can be busy. If you miss a session, we'll provide materials to help you catch up. However, regular attendance is encouraged for the best experience.
Is there a cost to attend?
No, the programme is free of charge for families and caregivers involved with Adult Mental Health Services in Nottinghamshire healthcare service.
Is the course online?
Yes, the course is delivered online. If there is something you think we may need to let us know regarding accessibility, please let us know in advance.
Will the sessions be recorded
No, the sessions will not be recorded to ensure confidentiality.
