Annual Medical Conference

On the 28 November we held our annual Medical Education Conference at Nottingham Racecourse. The day was supported by Ifti Majid, Chief Executive at Nottinghamshire Healthcare and Paul Devlin, Chair at Nottinghamshire Healthcare. It involved excellent presentations on the following topics: 

  • Is assisting suicide medical treatment (Baroness Ilora Finlay)
  • Assessing violence risk in adult psychiatry (Dr Daniel Whiting)
  • Workshops on Bridging Teaching and Learning: Exploring Theory in Practice (Prof Munesh Khamuani and Dr Alpna Chauhan)
  • A Novel Approach to Simulation Training - what we've learnt developing IDD sim for higher resident doctors (Dr Mariam Omokanye, Dr Sowmy Murickal, Dr Odah Itodo)
  • Optimising the Experience of Psychiatry as a Foundation Doctor (Dr Peter Cutajar, Dr Donatella Rinaldi, Gabriella Rocco)

There were oral presentations by the award winners, and Consultant, Resident Doctor and Medical Student representatives presented arguments in an engaging debate on whether or not Neurodiversity is over diagnosed.

During the event, awards were presented to:

  • Education Innovation Award: Dr Sue Fen Tan (ST3)
  • Young Leader Award: Dr Sowmy Murickal (ST6)
  • Research Prize Award: Dr Wendy Shoesmith (ST5)
  • ST4-ST6-Quality Improvement Award: Dr Harlene Deol (ST4)
  • Medical Students Research Quality Improvement Award: Ella Kaye (student)
  • Arts Award: Francesca North (student)

With new awards for 2025 being presented to:

  • Resident doctor of the year: Joint winners Dr Ayodeji Akere (HT) and Dr Emily Birkett (CT) 
  • Trainer of the year: Dr Anto Rajamani
