Brass band brings festive cheer to Sherwood Oaks
Patients and colleagues at Sherwood Oaks Hospital in Mansfield were treated to a heart-warming festive surprise on Saturday afternoon, as a brass band quartet performed live in the courtyard to help lift Christmas spirits during what can be a particularly challenging time of year.
The special event saw the courtyard come alive with the sound of both much-loved Christmas carols and a selection of original brass pieces. Over the course of 90 minutes, patients gathered to watch and listen, enjoying the music together.
The visit was organised by Peer Support Worker, Catherine, on Fir Ward, who worked hard to ensure the afternoon was a welcoming and enjoyable experience for everyone. With support from the Trust's Charitable Funds, the event was made possible through funding that covered the band alongside festive refreshments, including mince pies, biscuits, hot drinks and other treats for patients to enjoy.
Colleagues from the Involvement and Volunteering Team also generously gave up their Saturday to support the afternoon, helping to create a warm, inclusive atmosphere and ensuring patients felt supported throughout the event.
Smiles, laughter and moments of connection filled the courtyard, with many patients expressing how much they appreciated the experience. In one particularly joyful moment, patients from Beech and Fir Wards even formed a small conga, dancing together around the band as the music played.
A heartfelt thank you goes to Catherine, the Involvement and Volunteering Team, and all colleagues who helped make the event happen, as well as to the Brass Band Quartet who braved the cold for nearly an hour and a half to share their music and bring festive cheer to Sherwood Oaks patients.
