Healthcare Positive Star brings tears of joy to patient reunited with sister
Emma Pitt, Ward Clinical Secretary at the Trust was recently awarded a Positive Stars Award, which is the Trust's monthly colleague recognition scheme.
She was nominated when she worked on Silver Birch Ward at Highbury Hospital and her nominator, Kirstie Tomlinson, Trainee Multi-professional Approved Clinician/Advanced Clinical Practitioner said:
Emma is an incredible member of the Silver Birch Team, who goes over and above her role to add quality care to the patients admitted to the ward.
She helps patients move on successfully after discharge and brings happiness into their lives at difficult times.
Emma was instrumental in supporting a patient at Highbury Hospital with advanced dementia to visit her elderly sister in a care home. The sisters had lived together all their lives and had been separated by the recent hospital admission. Emma contacted the care home and arranged a visit. She escorted the patient to the care home, where the sisters hugged and greeted each other, with big smiles on their faces and they both had tears of joy.
Joseph Sullivan, Mental Health Care Group Director at Nottinghamshire Healthcare said: Reuniting our patient with her sister obviously meant a lot to them both and we're really proud of Emma for going above and beyond to make this happen. This is just one of many examples of her providing outstanding support to our patients and she really deserves this recognition, well done.
She has also spent time supporting one of our patients to become a Trust volunteer after discharge. She has supported him with all the processing documents and ensured what might have been a difficult process was smooth and not stressful for the patient. This was over and above her day-to-day role.
Emma shows outstanding compassion, care and responsiveness to the people who use our services.
