Nottinghamshire Healthcare is delighted that its Healthy Family Teams have been reaccredited with the Young Carer Friendly Service Quality Mark by Nottinghamshire Carers Association, recognising their ongoing commitment to identifying, supporting and raising awareness of young carers across Nottinghamshire.

The Quality Mark is awarded to health and social care services that work with children, young people and families and can demonstrate they are actively supporting young carers and helping them access the help they need.

Young carers often take on additional responsibilities at home caring for a family member who may have a disability, illness or mental health condition. Early identification and support can help ensure young carers receive the right advice, guidance and opportunities to thrive.

The Healthy Family Teams are committed to ensuring young carers are recognised, supported and signposted to appropriate services whenever needed.

To achieve reaccreditation, the teams have:

  • Enhanced information and resources on the Trust website and social media channels, as well as displaying information in community settings.
  • Shared resources and guidance with staff, teams and volunteers.
  • Appointed a dedicated Young Carers Champion to promote awareness and support across services.
  • Embedded conversations about caring responsibilities into routine discussions with children, young people and families.
  • Ensured relevant staff and volunteers have completed Young Carer Awareness Training.
  • Strengthened links with Nottinghamshire Carers Association to support referral pathways and access to additional support.

Elizabeth Henson, Head of Family Health and Support, said:

"We are delighted to have been reaccredited with the Young Carer Friendly Service Quality Mark. Young carers often balance significant responsibilities alongside school, friendships and other aspects of everyday life, and it is essential that they are recognised and supported.

"This award reflects the commitment of our teams to identifying young carers, listening to their experiences and ensuring they can access the right support at the right time. We are proud to continue working with Nottinghamshire Carers Association to help improve outcomes for young carers and their families."
