Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust are delighted to confirm the appointment of our new Trust Chair, Tom Cahill CBE. Tom will join us in January 2026, taking over from Paul Devlin, who is leaving after completing his second and final term as Chair of the Trust.

Tom is a registered mental health nurse and has extensive senior NHS leadership experience.  He was Chief Executive of Hertfordshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust for 12 years, leading the Trust to be rated by the CQC as 'Outstanding' in 2019.  He was named Chief Executive Officer of the year by the Health Service Journal in 2017.  In 2021, Tom joined the NHS England team as the National Director for Autism and Learning Disability.

Tom is passionate about improving the outcomes, health, and life opportunities for those with mental health challenges, learning disabilities and autism and is therefore delighted to secure his first Trust Chair role in one of the largest integrated mental and community Trusts in the country.

Tom said "I am delighted to have been appointed to the role of Chair at Nottinghamshire Healthcare. It's a privilege to get the opportunity to join the team at such an important time in the Trust's improvement journey.

"I am passionate about improving patient care, outcomes and fully involving carers and families in their care journey and I look forward to leading the Trust and delivering on its ambitious plans.  I also look forward to working with health and care partners to tackle health inequalities, develop neighbourhood working, improve the health and wellbeing of our local communities and deliver on the ambitions of the 10 Year Plan."

Paul Devlin said "I wish Tom the very best of luck as he becomes Trust Chair in the New Year.  I am sad to leave Nottinghamshire Healthcare but look forward to continuing to follow the Trust's improvement journey from afar.  We have achieved much over my 6 years in office, but there is still much to be done to achieve our ambitions to provide the very best community and mental healthcare to the people of Nottingham and beyond."
