Notts Healthcare supporting young people during National Work Experience Month

We're proud to be supporting young people across the region during National Work Experience Month by taking part in a new pilot programme designed to inspire and engage students who may be at risk of becoming Not in Education, Employment or Training (NEET).

The initiative, delivered in partnership with Futures, the EMCCA Careers Hub and the East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA), aims to provide meaningful workplace experiences for more than 200 young people across the East Midlands.

Research from the programme highlights that over 65% of participating students have never experienced a real workplace environment. By opening its doors to local students, Nottinghamshire Healthcare hopes to help broaden horizons, build confidence and showcase the wide variety of careers available within the NHS.

Alongside the Trust's established work experience programme, teams across the organisation have offered workplace visit opportunities covering a range of professional areas, including business and administration, estates and facilities and clinical services, giving students the opportunity to explore different career pathways and gain first-hand insight into working life within healthcare.

During the visits, students will have the opportunity to meet colleagues from a variety of professions, learn about different roles and career journeys, take part in interactive activities and gain an understanding of what a typical working day looks like. The sessions are designed to be engaging, informative and accessible, helping young people develop their knowledge of employment opportunities and the skills needed for future success.

As one of the largest employers in the region, Nottinghamshire Healthcare is committed to supporting local communities and investing in the future workforce. Through initiatives such as this, the Trust continues to work closely with education providers and partners to create opportunities that inspire the next generation and help young people realise their potential.

The programme also highlights the breadth of careers available within the NHS, extending far beyond clinical roles. From administration and finance to estates, facilities, digital services and apprenticeships, students can discover the many different routes into a rewarding career in healthcare.

Debbie Morris, Apprenticeship and Work Experience Lead at the Trust said, "Work experience can be a life-changing opportunity for young people, particularly for those who may not have had the chance to experience a workplace environment before. As part of National Work Experience Month, we're delighted to be supporting this important pilot programme and welcoming students into Nottinghamshire Healthcare. These visits provide a valuable opportunity to explore different careers, meet our colleagues and gain an insight into the many roles that help us deliver high-quality care every day. The NHS offers an incredibly diverse range of career pathways, and we hope that by opening our doors and sharing our experiences, we can help raise aspirations, build confidence and inspire young people to consider the exciting opportunities available to them in the future."
