OSCARS 2026: Meet the finalists of the Unsung Hero Award - Non-Clinical

Unsung hero - non-clinical

Nottinghamshire Healthcare is counting down to the Outstanding Service Contribution and Recognition Scheme (OSCARS) Awards Ceremony on 6 November. The OSCARS celebrates the dedication of our volunteers, colleagues and Bank workforce. It’s an opportunity to recognise the people whose hard work, compassion and commitment make a positive difference to the communities we serve.

This year, we received almost 900 nominations from patients, carers and colleagues. After weeks of carefully reviewing every entry, our judges have selected the finalists for the 2025/26 OSCARS.

Today we’re highlighting our Unsung Hero Award - Non-Clinical finalists. This award celebrates an individual whose dedication and hard work often happen behind the scenes. While they may not always be in the spotlight, their contribution is invaluable in helping the Trust achieve its goals and make a difference every day.

Carl Ellis - Head of Service End of Life TogetherOur first shortlisted nominee is Carl who has demonstrated exceptional leadership and determination in improving end-of-life care across North Nottinghamshire. By bringing together hospices, NHS, voluntary and care sector partners, he has helped develop a more joined-up, personalised approach for people in the final weeks of life. One of his most significant achievements has been securing social investment from Macmillan Cancer Support to establish the Integrated End of Life Care Hub, working closely with Alliance partners to turn this ambitious vision into reality.

Joanne BattershallSecond is Jo who is known for her warmth, compassion and unwavering dedication. Jo goes above and beyond every day to support those around her. She provides reassurance and stability to clients, including a long-standing client who relies on her trusted and familiar presence to help manage anxiety. Her kindness, collaborative spirit and genuine concern for others have helped create a workplace where people feel supported, respected and valued.

Ann Clayton - Business ManagerAnn is our third finalist. This year Ann is celebrating an incredible 36 years with the Trust during which she has made a lasting impact on both patient care and colleagues alike. In her role within Capital Services, Ann has helped shape some of our most significant patient environments, supporting developments including Hopewood, Queens Building, Tall Trees and Glade, Sherwood Oaks, and Blossomwood. Throughout every project, she has remained focused on creating spaces that put patients first.

Bridie Sunderland - Practice Learning LeadBridie is our fourth finalists. Bridie is passionate about creating the very best experience for student nurses and preceptees, going above and beyond to ensure every learner feels supported, valued, and confident in their role. By strengthening links between universities and clinical teams, increasing the visibility of the Practice Learning Team, and providing regular supervision and support sessions, Bridie has transformed learner feedback into meaningful improvements across the Mental Health Care Group.

We’ll be announcing the winner on 6 November on our website and social media channels.
Our awards wouldn’t be possible without the generous support of our sponsors. Our Gold sponsors are TPP, Isla Health, The Compassionate Mind Foundation, Hill Dickinson and BT. We've also been supported by Fleet Care Ltd, Mills & Reeve and Merrymeet Marketing.
