Shortlisted for national award for work supporting staff who are military reservists

We are delighted after being shortlisted in the Healthcare Recruitment Award category, in the 2021 Health Business Awards, for our work in supporting employees who are military reservists. The Health Business Awards recognise the many examples of innovation and excellence that happen every day in the NHS.

The Trust was shortlisted for The Ministry of Defence Employers Recognition Scheme which it runs. The scheme encourages employers to support defence and inspire others to do the same. It encompasses bronze, silver and gold awards for organisations that pledge, demonstrate or advocate support to defence and the armed forces community, and align their values with the Armed Forces Covenant. The Trust was given a Gold Award revalidation from the Ministry of Defence Employers Recognition Scheme in July. The Trust re-signed the Armed Forces Covenant in June.

Previously, the Trust has supported a number of reservist employees to be deployed across the armed forces and has supported their transition back into the Trust upon their return. The Trust works in partnership with NHS Employers Step into Health programme. Step into Health offers an access route into employment and other career development opportunities within the NHS to members of the armed forces community.

Dr John Brewin, Chief Executive, said –

“I am absolutely delighted that we have received further recognition of our continued support for employing reservists, veterans, cadet adult volunteers and members of the armed forces families, and our commitment to ensure staff and their families are treated fairly.

“Having been a long-standing supporter of the Armed Forces, we continue to recognise the outstanding transferable skills, training, experience, and the values that Armed Forces and their families bring to our Trust. Our policies also reflect the flexibilities for staff that are called into full time service to support them to adjust to deployment before, during and after.

“I am really proud of employing and supporting those who serve, veterans and their families and we are committed to continuing to do so.”

Winners will be announced on 9 December. More on the awards can be found here Categories | Health Business Awards (healthbusinessuk.net).
