Accessing our services
Who can access podiatric surgery?
You can be referred to podiatric surgery if:
- You are registered with a GP in Nottinghamshire.
- You have a complex foot problem.
Is surgery always needed?
Surgery is not always the first treatment choice.
A podiatric surgeon checks all referrals. This is called triage.
If you have not had podiatry treatment before, you may be offered this first. This helps us decide the best care for you.
Non surgical treatments
Before surgery is considered, you may be offered other treatments, such as:
- Insoles
- Advice about footwear
- Cortisone injections
These treatments may help reduce pain and improve movement without surgery.
How do I access NHS podiatric surgery?
You cannot refer yourself.
A referral must be made by:
- Your GP, or
- Another health professional
Your GP or health professional may also ask for an X ray before your first appointment.
This helps the podiatric surgeons plan the best treatment for you.
