South Nottinghamshire Respiratory Services
We are a community service that supports people with long-term breathing conditions. We work in Rushcliffe, Nottingham West, and Nottingham North and East.
Our team includes different healthcare professionals who work together to support you.
Specialist community respiratory nurses
Our nurses carry out a detailed respiratory and holistic assessment to understand your individual needs.
We support people with conditions such as:
- Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
- Pulmonary fibrosis
- Bronchiectasis
- Chronic asthma
We help you learn how to manage your condition and improve your quality of life.
We aim to:
- Help you stay well at home
- Reduce hospital visits
- Make sure your treatment is right for you
We work closely with:
- GPs
- Practice nurses
- Respiratory consultants
- Community healthcare teams
We can also guide you to other services if you need extra support.
Home oxygen service
We assess your need for oxygen therapy in your home after it has been started in hospital care.
We provide:
- Long-term oxygen therapy
- Oxygen for use when moving around (ambulatory oxygen)
- Oxygen for cluster headaches
We make sure you get the right oxygen treatment to improve your quality of life.
All care follows national guidelines from the British Thoracic Society.
Pulmonary rehabilitation team
Pulmonary rehabilitation is a 6-week programme that includes exercise and education. It is run by healthcare staff from the Community Cardiorespiratory Service.
It is for people with long-term breathing conditions, such as:
- Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
- Bronchiectasis
- Interstitial lung disease
- Chronic asthma
Pulmonary rehabilitation can help you to:
- feel less short of breath during daily activities
- improve your fitness and strength
- improve your quality of life
- have more energy
- learn more about your lung condition
The programme includes:
- 12 sessions over 6 weeks
- Exercise sessions
- Advice on managing your condition
Our team includes:
- Physiotherapists
- Nurses
- Clinical Exercise physiologists

8.30am - 4.30pm, Monday to Friday.
Accessing our service
Referrals are accepted from Health Professionals from Primary and Secondary Care for patients registered with a GP in Rushcliffe, Nottingham West or Nottingham North and East.
Patients previously known to our Specialist Respiratory Nurses can self-refer for up to 12 months after discharge.

The South Notts Respiratory Service does not offer an urgent or out of hour service. Outside of office hours please contact your GP, NHS 111, or in an emergency go to your local Accident and Emergency (A&E) department.
