We're looking for community voices to join our Council of Governors!

Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is inviting people from local communities to consider joining its Council of Governors and have a say in how the Trust's services are shaped and delivered.

The Trust provides a wide range of NHS services that many people rely on at different points in their lives. This includes mental health services for children, young people and adults, community health services such as district nursing and health visiting, specialist services including learning disability and dementia care, and secure services. These services are delivered from more than 100 locations across Nottinghamshire, parts of South Yorkshire and beyond, supported by around 11,500 staff.

The Council of Governors plays an important role in making sure the Trust listens to the people it serves. Governors act as a link between local communities and the Trust's senior leadership. They represent the views of patients, service users, carers, staff and the public, helping to make sure local voices are heard when decisions are made about services. Governors also help hold the Trust to account and contribute to discussions about its future direction.

To help people find out more, the Trust is hosting an informal online information event for anyone who is interested in becoming a governor or simply wants to understand more about the role. The session will explain what governors do, what kind of commitment is involved, and what support is available. There will also be an opportunity to ask questions and meet current governors, who will share their experiences.

Tom Cahill CBE, Chair of Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, said: Our services touch the lives of thousands of people every day, and it's very important that we stay closely connected to the communities we serve. Governors help us do exactly that by bringing local views, experiences and ideas into the heart of the Trust. You don't need specialist knowledge or NHS experience - what matters most is a willingness to listen, learn and speak up for your community.

Greg Bradshaw, Lead Governor, Trust Council of Governors, said: "Being a governor you get to understand how the Trust works, ask questions and help influence decisions that affect local services.  We try to represent staff, members and public and help to make sure those views are heard at the heart of the Trust. The online information event is a great way to find out more in a friendly, informal setting and see whether the role is right for you.  It would be great to see you there!"

Nottinghamshire Healthcare is committed to working closely with patients, carers, staff, partners and local communities to deliver compassionate, high-quality care. The Trust is keen to attract governors from all walks of life so that the Council reflects the diversity of the communities it serves.

The online information event will take place on Thursday 5 February from 7pm to 8pm. Anyone who would like to stand for election as a governor will need to submit an application before the deadline of Monday 16 February. Following this, Trust members will be invited to vote in the governor elections, giving patients, staff and members of the public a direct say in who represents them. Those successfully elected to the Council of Governors will be announced on Thursday 2 April 2026.

To become a governor, you must be a member of Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. Membership is free and you can sign up quickly on the Trust's website.

To register for the online event, simply complete this short form. For more information about the Council of Governors and how to submit your application, visit the Trust's website.
