Waiting well, keeping well

Waiting well: Supporting you while you wait

We understand that you or the person you care for may need help and support as soon as possible. Unfortunately, there can sometimes be a wait for an appointment with a mental health professional or for a transfer to another service.

While this waiting period can be challenging, there are steps you can take to support yourself in the meantime. The information below provides some suggestions to help you manage during this time.

Keeping a journal or diary

Some people find that keeping a record of their thoughts, feelings and activities helps them recognise patterns and trigger points.

This can be helpful to maintaining a healthy mind.

Someone to speak to

A common saying is a problem shared is a problem halved.

However, many people find talking to someone difficult. It is important to choose someone you trust. This can be someone you already know or someone totally new. We have provided contact numbers or services that you can reach out to.

Keeping active and getting outdoors

Being outdoors has a major benefit to our mental health. There are many things you can do which include:

  • Take a pet for a walk
  • Do some gardening
  • Visit the outdoor gyms
  • Join a walking group
  • Set yourself some time to relax outdoors

Things you enjoy doing

You may have things that you have enjoyed doing in the past such as reading, cooking, swimming, cycling, writing or photography.

There might also be things you have always wanted to try, so why not give these a go now?
