Clinical psychologists
We are a group of Specialist Clinical Psychologist and assistant psychologists covering the city and county within 4 localities: City, South, North and West.
Our service is for adults over 18 with a confirmed diagnosis of an Intellectual Disability, sometimes called a Learning Disability. We also assess to see if people have an Intellectual Disability. We work closely with other health professionals and social care.
What we can help with
Clinical Psychologists can;
- Help you understand your thoughts and feelings.
- Help you to feel better about things that worry or upset you.
They might do this by:
- Talking to you.
- Helping you to think differently about things that make you sad or worried.
- Helping you to do something differently so problems don't get worse.
- Talking to your family, support staff, other health professionals.
- Doing assessments that help people understand how you make sense of information so they can help you with this.
Clinical Psychologists do not prescribe medication.
