Orion Unit
The Orion Unit is an assessment and treatment in-patient unit based at Highbury Hospital in Nottingham. We provide support for adults who have a diagnosis of an intellectual disability and complex mental health difficulties and / or challenging behaviours that cannot be managed in the community. We accept adults aged between 18 to 65.
We provide individualised support in a specially designed place. We use a variety of approaches and methods to help each person in the way that works best for them.
What we can help with
Our team is experienced in providing services for people with neuro-developmental conditions such as autism, attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and attachment disorders.
Our highly expert team consists of a broad range of professions, including nursing, psychiatry, clinical psychology, speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, physiotherapy. We aim to work closely with individuals, family members as well as professional carers.
The term 'Recovery' has not been widely used within services for people with an intellectual disability; however, we share many of the principles. These include a focus on rights, choice, independence, and inclusion, which overlap with and extend the 'Recovery' principles of wellness, hope, control and opportunity.
Our professionals draw on experience and practice using person-centred principles, a focus on strengths and abilities, with an aim to reduce any restrictive practices using the principles of positive behavioural support.
