Specialist Physiotherapists
Adults who have an Intellectual disability, sometimes called a learning disability, deserve to be able to use the same specialist services that everyone else does.
Adults who have an intellectual disability deserve to be able to use the same services that everyone else does.. Sometimes the services need to make changes to help make that happen. These are called 'reasonable adjustments' and might mean things like a longer appointment, or a quiet space.
Our Physiotherapy Team work with people whose Intellectual Disability makes it too difficult to use these services, even with reasonable adjustments.
What we can help with
Physiotherapists will assess an individual's needs and can provide support in the most suitable location for them. This could be at their home, day service, or short breaks service. They are also able to collaborate with other involved teams, such as social care.
Physiotherapy may involve:
- Teaching you and your carers exercises to help your body move better,
- Help you walk better or prevent you from falling over,
- They may also use the trampoline or hydrotherapy to help achieve this,
- They may look at your position in a wheelchair, sitting down or lying in your bed and make sure these are right for you.
