Specialist Physiotherapists
We are a team of Specialist Physiotherapists and support staff. We work across the city and county. We support adults who have a confirmed Learning Disability.
Adults with a Learning Disability have the same right to use specialist health services as everyone else. Sometimes services need to make changes to help this happen. These changes are called reasonable adjustments.
Reasonable adjustments may include:
- A longer appointment.
- A quiet or calm space.
- Extra time to explain things.
Some people still find it too hard to use mainstream physiotherapy services, even with these adjustments. Our team supports people in these situations.
How we can help
A physiotherapist will listen to you and work with you in the place that suits you best. This could be:
- At home.
- At a day service.
- At a short breaks service.
We can also work with other teams involved in your care, such as social care.
Physiotherapy may include:
- Teaching you and your carers exercises to help your body move better.
- Helping you to walk more safely and reduce the risk of falling.
- Using activities such as a trampoline or hydrotherapy, if this is helpful.
- Checking how you sit, lie down or use a wheelchair to make sure it is right for you.
