Only visit your local Emergency Department for serious life-threatening conditions that need immediate medical attention including persistent severe chest pain, loss of consciousness, acute confused state, severe breathlessness, severe blood loss, serious burns or suspected stroke.
Silver Birch is a 20 bedded assessment ward. It is available for people aged 65+ with a diagnosis of dementia or challenging behaviour.
The service is also available to anyone over 18 with a mental health condition due to a medical or physical disease (rather than a psychiatric illness).

Access to the ward is via referral from the community mental health teams.
