Patients first - Hero

Patients first

We put patients first, caring for people as they wish to be treated, with patients, families and carers leading and shaping decisions.

We will commit to

Care that puts patients first, is based on the best available evidence, is safe, and is continually improved through learning and experience.

We will deliver this by

Embedding evidence-based clinical principles and standards across all our services, aligned to the NHS Culture of Care and Patient and Carer Race Equality Framework (PCREF), delivering equitable standards and outcomes.

Improving patient participation and co-production so that our service users play a leading role in the delivery of their care.

Building a culture where everyone is encouraged to keep improving the quality of care. Give colleagues, patients, and carers the time, support, and skills they need to work together to make our services better.

We will know we are successful if

Patient satisfaction and service user feedback improves.

CQC domain ratings improve.

We will commit to

Care in welcoming environments where people feel supported and safe.

We will deliver this by

Removing dormitory accommodation across all our mental health inpatient services.*

Improving our estates and environment for patients in secure care who may require long-term segregation.

We will know we are successful if

There are zero dormitory beds in mental health inpatient services.

We will commit to

Make sure people who need care most can get it quickly and easily, with a focus on prevention and early intervention.

We will deliver this by

Reviewing access to our community health services to focus on prevention and early intervention.

Redesigning our community and urgent mental health services in collaboration with patients, carers and partners to improve how we deliver timely, safe and compassionate care for adults requiring mental health support.*

Ensuring we have the right balance of specialist inpatient services to provide safe and timely access and transition for patients.*

We will know we are successful if

Access to services improves and waiting times are reduced.

Crisis 4 hour and 24 hour response standards are achieved.
