National recognition for ground-breaking partnership supporting patients with complex needs
The Trust is very proud to have been shortlisted in two categories of the HSJ Partnership Awards, alongside Medstrom.
The partnership project has been shortlisted in the Most Effective Contribution to Improving Care for Those with Long-term Conditions, and the Most Impactful Project Addressing Health Inequalities categories.
The project looked at a new type of hospital bed designed for people who have both mental health and physical health needs. Prior to the partnership, beds available would only either focus on enhanced safety or supporting physical care, but not both. Working together, the SoloMH bed was introduced, which combines improved ligature reduction features with full hospital-bed positioning.
The bed prevents patients from harming themselves or others, and helps staff work more safely by reducing strain and back injuries. Since its introduction, no bed-related safety incidents have been reported. Patients benefit from better comfort, safer movement, reduced pressure ulcers, and improved dignity. Staff report better outcomes, safer care, and lower injury risk.
Becky Sutton, Chief Operating Officer said:
"We are extremely proud to be shortlisted alongside Medstrom for these prestigious awards. This recognition reflects the hard work and commitment of everyone involved in achieving the best possible outcomes for our patients and colleagues. By focusing on patient needs, safety, and dignity, while also prioritising the wellbeing and safety of our staff, we have delivered meaningful improvements in care."
"Since the original implementation, which was at Rampton Hospital, the usage has expanded to include adult mental health and intellectual and developmental disabilities wards (IDD), beniftiting even more patients and colleagues. Well done to everyone involved."
Medstrom's CEO and former RGN, Rachel Apsey, commented:
"Awards like this reflect our approach with NHS organisations - forming partnerships that can truly impact and improve patient outcomes. As a UK manufacturer of beds, operating just down the road in Castle Donington, it is wonderful to work so closely with neighbouring organisations such as Nottinghamshire Healthcare, which is reflected in the improved communication and feedback.
"Working with staff across the Trust has been incredibly collaborative, with a clearly shared passion for collecting clinical evidence. We hope that the SoloMH beds continue to deliver improved outcomes for patients and caregivers alike."
