Two Trust senior leaders have been shortlisted for a national Queen’s Nursing Institute Award.

Anne-Maria Newham MBE, Executive Director of Nursing, AHPs and Quality and Deputy Chief Executive and Keeley Sheldon, Executive Director of Community Health Services at Nottinghamshire Healthcare have both been shortlisted for the William Rathbone X Award for Excellence in the Executive Nurse Leadership of Community Nursing Services. This is a new annual award established by the Queen’s Nursing Institute to celebrate and raise the profile of nurses in senior executive roles working in the NHS and other major healthcare organisations.

Ifti Majid, Chief Executive at Nottinghamshire Healthcare said:

“It is fantastic to have two members of our Executive team shortlisted for this prestigious national award. The award recognises the importance of excellent leadership at a strategic level in the delivery of excellent nursing care in the community. Both Anne-Maria and Keeley are fantastic examples of brilliant nurse leaders, with both putting patients at the heart of everything they do and supporting colleagues to provide the best patient care possible. Wishing them both the best of luck for the next stage”

Anne-Maria was shortlisted for demonstrating excellent strategic nursing leadership through her visibility, advocacy of patients and staff, and representation of the nursing voice at local, regional and national forums.

Anne-Maria has made herself accessible to staff through a highly visible approach. Through the pandemic she donned her uniform and undertook shifts to support staff in difficult times. She trained as a vaccinator and spent additional shifts in several locations in the county supporting the vaccination programme both as assessor and vaccinator.

Anne-Maria brings with her a vast amount of experience in community nursing having worked for many years in children’s community health services, and for the last three years at this Trust as our Executive Director of Nursing AHPs and Quality.

Anne-Maria Newham MBE said:

“I’m really thrilled to have been shortlisted for this award, and for Keeley to have been shortlisted also. I know for both of us, providing the best possible patient care has always been our priority. What is also incredibly important to me is to be a visible, accessible and compassionate leader, so be recognised for this is fantastic.”

Keeley was shortlisted for being an inclusive and compassionate NHS nurse leader, who is highly influential, and motivated to connect, engage, innovate, and inspire. She encourages a diverse workforce that is representative of the communities we serve and nurtures an inclusive dialogue to continuously improve the offer around the community’s needs.

Patients are at the forefront of her leadership. She is passionate about ensuring that we work in partnership with our community to deliver the kind of care and outcomes they desire and more importantly deserve from the NHS

Keeley has fostered great team spirit where she has brought together diverse knowledge and lived experiences for benefits for all.  Actively listening to understand and emphasise to help everyone feel a sense of being valued and listened too and part of something.

Keeley said:

“I’m really delighted to have been shortlisted for this award, alongside Anne-Maria. To see my leadership recognised and my commitment to using that to provide the best patient care across our Trust is fantastic. Compassionate leadership is something which is so important to me, as compassion to each other will transfer out into our patient care and ensure our patients feel valued, listened to and work in partnership with us to achieve what is best for them.”

The winner will be announced on 12 May 2023. More on the awards here: William Rathbone X Award for Executive Nurse Leadership – The Queen's Nursing Institute (qni.org.uk)
