Trust nurse wins Cavell Star Award
We are very proud of our Tissue Viability Nurse, Amy Townsend, who has received a Cavell Star award. An inspiring national awards programme, Cavell Star Awards are given to nurses, midwives, nursing associates and healthcare assistants who shine bright and show exceptional care to one of three groups of people, their colleagues, their patients or patients’ families.

Amy’s line manager, Anabel Wilson, nominated her for consistently going above and beyond to support staff and patients. She is a real unsung hero in their team. Amy has also just produced a combine wound care formulary for paediatric and adults which has never been done before in the Trust. The wound care combined formulary is to provide up to date, evidence based guidance on appropriate dressings for wound management.
It supports practitioners to have clear guidance on the first line dressings which can be used not only to improve efficiency in wound healing but to also promote cost effective savings. Paediatrics has been included within the formulary to make it combined to give a clear structure to all.
Amy said: “I feel so overwhelmed, grateful and lucky to work with such fantastic colleagues who have made this nomination.
“It is a privilege to be a nurse working in the community. I have been doing this for over 20 years and to now be specialising in Tissue Viability is a dream come true for me. I’m passionate about my role and feel so rewarded at the end of each day if I know I have been able to support, teach and guide those who need me. I love to come to work each day, learn new things and be there for my colleagues as they are for me. They are my extended family.
“I was so shocked to be told I had been awarded the Cavell Star. It is such an honour to be recognised by my colleagues for a job I love and makes me so happy to do. I do feel very humbled and would just like to say thank you so much to Annabel Wilson for all the support and guidance you give to myself and my colleagues.”
