Trust welcomes first international nurses
The Trust was delighted this month to welcome our first international nurses who will shortly start their permanent nursing roles with us, with further international nurses to join us over the next couple of months.
Martha, Pearlina and Aisa, experienced nurses from Zimbabwe, the Philippines and St Vincent in the West Indies, are set to join colleagues across the Trust after completing intensive training, their mandatory exam and receiving all necessary support. The exam they take will test their practical nursing standards and ensure they can be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council, allowing them to work in the UK.
Recruiting international nurses will be a huge benefit to our Trust, allowing us to fulfil our workforce needs and provide the best care to our patients.
Tabetha Darmon, Executive Director of Nursing AHP and Quality said:

“All of our international nurses who will be joining us will receive all relevant training and support before starting on the wards, so they are able to continue to provide the outstanding care to our patients that we pride ourselves on.

The nurses are set to join services at Highbury Hospital within our acute adult mental health in-patient unit, Lings Bar Hospital, rehabilitation unit based in Gamston, Nottingham and within our acute admission and assessment ward at Arnold Lodge, Leicester.
About joining the Trust, Pearlina commented “I believe in teamwork, compassion, honesty and trust and the Nottinghamshire Healthcare embodies these values so it makes my work environment much easier to fit into”
They will all be given a full Trust induction and be supported with all they need for working on a ward, with each nurse gaining hands on experience working alongside experienced clinical teams.
The Trust’s Pastoral Care team has been supporting them to settle in to life in the UK. The team aim to help the nurses find local support groups in their local community as well as information for local places of interest and worship. They will also be provided with information on how to access staff health and wellbeing services.
The nurses will receive ongoing training, career development opportunities and support.
