A workplace student’s positive experience in CAMHS
Positive feedback is always lovely to receive, especially when it comes from those gaining their first experiences in our services. Recently, a work placement student shared some lovely feedback about one of our Specialist Practitioners in CAMHS Integrated Specialist Services. Their comments highlight the supportive, skilled environment our staff create for learners and young people.
Whilst studying my degree with the Open University, I felt I was lacking practical placement experience, so I reached out to the team to see if I could gain some work experience. As it's a sensitive subject area, I initially found it difficult to secure a placement. However, Nottinghamshire Healthcare kindly offered me the opportunity to shadow a Specialist Practitioner within the service.
The placement was very well organised, beginning with an induction before I was introduced to the practitioner I would be learning from. The team worked around my needs and existing work schedule, allowing me to gain as much experience as possible. I was able to meet students, observe sessions, and learn about different approaches to supporting young people.
Throughout my placement, I felt valued and welcomed. The practitioner I shadowed was an excellent role model, offering insight, guidance, and constructive feedback that helped me explore different career paths. As a result of this experience, I applied for a role within Nottinghamshire Healthcare-and was successful.
I would highly recommend this work experience opportunity to anyone interested in supporting young people. Without this placement, I believe I would still be searching for ways to progress in my career.
